Image So, two weeks have gone by since I've started practicing daily, and I think I'm kicking ass. This is the third week of my exploits at learning how to play guitar, and things are going great so far. I hope, if you're following along, that you get something out of this grand guitar experiment.

After recording the plans for the next two weeks, I came into an interesting predicament- I am definitely attempting to bite off way more than I can chew. I can definitely add those two chords (as a matter of fact, the only difference between A7 and A is one more fretted string) and I can get into strumming patterns, but I will never be able to succeed in going over 4/4 and 3/4 time in 2 weeks with half an hour practice sessions. I definitely need to rework this.

I think, being entirely realistic, I can work on strumming patterns alongside a metronome. I'm going to practice just strumming up and down alongside a metronome to smooth chord transitions this week (link to an online metronome at the bottom of the article). Additionally, I'm going to add A and C chords. So, what I'll be doing is strumming a chord for four counts (four ticks on the metronome), then switching to another chord to do the same. The chord goal, in the end, is to get through all the open chords within the next couple months or so, but not to go so fast to the point where I just end up forgetting them, because that seems to me to be a waste of time. The metronome will, in addition to helping me keep rhythm, allow me to better keep these chords in my memory. I'm also going to remember to recite the names of the chords to myself as I play them.

Right. See you in a week.
