ImageOk, so this is the first installation of a continuing series that follows my (hopeful) improvement in guitar skills. Why am I doing this? I don’t want to be the guy that claims that he can play guitar, yet can only strum a G chord. I also don’t want to be the guy that can only use power chords, yet thinks he's amazing. For the next six months, I’m actually going to learn to play the guitar. So follow along and we'll see how this goes...

My Daily Plan - Weeks 1 & 2 - Building Muscle Memory

  • Personal Goal- Recite chord names while strumming them
  • Personal Goal- Set my cell phone alarm to make sure I’m spending a full half hour practicing

Day 1 & 2 – Chords with common finger (switching from chord G to Em and back again) – 30 minutes
Day 3 & 4 – Chords on same fret (D, A7, and G) – 30 minutes
Day 5 & 6 – Practice all four chords together (G, D, Em, A7), while making sure I can switch from any chord to another one of the chords. – 30 minutes
Day 7 & 8 – 1) Practice same stuff as day 3 – 10 minutes 2)Add E7 and practice transitioning from G, Em, D, and A7 to E7 – 20 minutes
Day 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 – Integrate all chords together and practice combinations to see what sounds good – 30 minutes
